LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort is getting its biggest facelift ever.
Owners of the resort have spent $2 million in renovations and improvements and are ready to show them off.
This is already a big year for the resort as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The resort's general manager, Kevin Stickelman, said five new runs were added in one area and 14 new ski trails are being groomed and ready to greet skiers next week.
The old kitchen and cafeteria have also been replaced.
"We added new fryers, new stovetops and new grills," he said, adding the menu has also been changed.
"We're going with more of the homemade food, made from scratch," he said. "Healthier items. In order to do that we need things like new ovens, flat tops and refrigeration."
He said a new guest locker room was added along with 140 lockers that guests can rent for the season.
The resort also added a new fleet of rental equipment, replacing the old.
Stickelman said the resort has even gone as far as reducing its carbon footprint as it is now running on solar power.
Stickelman said the renovations were all paid for by ticket sales.
"We were fortunate enough, despite the bad snow across the country," he said. "We had a very successful season (last year)."
While the hillside might be bare right now, Stickelman said the resort will be open next week.
Stickelman said the resort will open on schedule the day after Thanksgiving, thanks to a new snow-making gun. However a new chairlift will be under construction for another two weeks.
Ticket sales and season passes are expected to remain the same price even with the new renovations.
