PUC Approves New Area Code for Clark County

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Southern Nevadans best hang tight onto their 702 phone numbers, lest they end up with a 725 area code.

The Public Utilities Commission approved the new area code Thursday for Clark County to meet increasing consumer demand. Starting in 2014, the 725 area code will be issued to new phone numbers. The 702 area code is expected to be exhausted by the third quarter of 2014.

The additional area code will require 10-digits dialing – area code plus seven-digit number – between callers starting May 3, 2014.

The commission was petitioned by NeuStar, the organization that administers area code use.
