Customers Raise Questions About Shutter Company

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - Shutters can add a great deal of charm and sophistication to a home, but they can be expensive.

When Adrian Carabasu heard from a co-worker he could get shutters for half price from an Arizona-based company called Showcase Shutters, he was sold.

"I called Showcase Shutters, and they sent John to my house to give me a free estimate," he said.

Sold on the deal, Carabasu wrote John Zayicek a check for $2,100. Adrian also told co-worker Carla Reiner about the savings.

"He told me it was going to be three thousand dollars, so he asked for half of the deposit," Carla said about John Zayicek.

Carla also wrote a check. Both Carla and Adrian were told they would receive their shutters in six to eight weeks. The shutters never came. So, they called John for answers, but received nothing but messages from John claiming he was waiting for a call regarding their products.

Nothing ever came. Growing more concerned, Carla and Adrian turned to 8 on Your Side for help.

8 on Your Side reached out to Showcase Shutters. A worker there said he hadn't worked with John Zayicek for months. 8 on Your Side also contacted John directly who blamed the problems on Showcase Shutters. He denied the allegation he hasn't dealt with the company in months.

After several more conversations with 8 on Your Side, John finally agreed to give Adrian and Carla their money back.

"He thought we were just going to play dead I guess and let it slide," Carla said.

Carla, Adrian and 8 on Your Side, meanwhile, reported their dealings with John Zayicek and Showcase Shutters to the Arizona Attorney General's Office. So far, requests for an investigation have been denied.
