LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police are investigating a Saturday afternoon shooting in the northwest Las Vegas valley that killed a person and wounded another.

According to police, officers arrived at an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Simmons Street and found a male and female suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The male, whose name and age has not been released, was dead at the scene. The female -- her name and age also unknown – was taken to University Medical Center where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to homicide detectives, the male and female were exiting their car when an unknown person fired several rounds at them. There is no indication of any confrontation beforehand and it is believed by detectives that the shooting was gang-related.
