Free Surgeries Provided to Eight Uninsured Patients

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - A local non-profit is working to help those who cannot afford basic medical procedures - providing eight uninsured patients with free surgeries.

The surgeries will be performed by Helping Hands Surgical Care co-founder Dr. Kevin Petersen and other Las Vegas surgeons. Medical staff from Valley View Surgical Center will assist with the surgeries. All of the staff members are volunteering their services for the day.

The doctors are treating common conditions that are relatively easy to treat, but they can keep people from working and can gravely affect their livelihood.

"We've literally returned crippled patients back to normal lives," Dr. Petersen said. "Everyone that we operated on last year in this same event has had an excellent result."

As a surgeon, Dr. Petersen says he can donate his time and skills, but that's not enough to do a single operation.
