Man Tried to Carjack Two Vehicles Before Being Shot by Police

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The suspect shot last weekend by Metro Police tried to carjack two different vehicles before engaging in a gunfight with responding officers.

The arrest report released Friday morning indicated that at 9:22 p.m. last Saturday, Terry Rogaczewski, 39, of Las Vegas stood in front of a 2011 Nissan Altima entering the Town and Country Manner in the 5300 block of Boulder Highway. He pointed a gun at the driver and ordered him to roll down the window, but the driver sped off around the complex.

About three minutes later, Rogaczewski fired immediately at a 2007 Cadillac as it entered the complex. The driver ducked, shifted into reverse and accelerated as he continued to face gunshots. The Cadillac crashed into a wall, and the driver got out and jumped over a wall to get away.

Officers in the area responded and found Rogaczewski trying to enter the Cadillac. Rogaczewski fired at the officers and they responded by firing as well, striking Rogaczewski several times.

Rogaczewski was released Friday morning from University Medical Center and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Rogaczewski is facing several charges in connection with the shooting, including attempted murder, attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting or obstructing an officer with a weapon.
