LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Nevada judge sentenced a former top Las Vegas drug case prosecutor to a reduced term of 12 to 30 months in prison term following his return from Mexico, where he fled to avoid jail in a cocaine possession case.

David Schubert didn't apologize, but told Clark County District Court Judge Carolyn Ellsworth on Wednesday he felt he'd been treated exceptionally harshly for his March 2011 arrest with $40 in rock cocaine and an unregistered handgun in his car.

Schubert's lawyer, Louis Schneider, said Schubert is grateful the judge ordered his enrollment in a prison substance abuse program.

Schubert pleaded guilty in September 2011 to felony unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

He once handled high-profile drug cases including cocaine possession plea deals with celebrities Paris Hilton and Bruno Mars.
