HENDERSON, Nev. -- Henderson Police have shot and killed a suspect near St. Rose Parkway and Eastern Avenue following a two-hour standoff.
Police first responded at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night to a report of a 36-year-old male beating up his girlfriend. When police arrived, they saw the boyfriend walking along St. Rose Parkway. He ran from police and fell into a drainage ditch. A gun fell out of his pocket.
The suspect pointed the gun to his head, threatening suicide and touching off a two-hour standoff with police. Henderson Police said the suspect then pointed the gun at officers. That's when at least one officer shot and killed him. He died at the scene.
The suspect was a registered felon with convictions in California for burglary and prison escape as well as a conviction in Nevada for larceny. He was wanted on a warrant from Nevada Parole and Probation for absconding from probation.
The Clark County Coroner's Office will identify the victim once next of kin have been notified. Any officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave.
