September Traffic at McCarran Down Over Last Year

LAS VEGAS -- The number of passengers departing McCarran International Airport in September is down 3 percent year-over-year, according to Clark County's Aviation Department.

In September 2012, 3.4 million passengers traveled through McCarran; in the same month last year, 3.5 million passengers took flights in or out of the Las Vegas airport.

However, year-to-date passenger numbers are up slightly, 0.9 percent increase over last year; through September 2012, 31.5 million passengers traveled through McCarran. During the same time period last year, 31.2 million passengers traveled through the airport.  

The number of passengers arriving or departing on international flights grew 9.7 percent year-over-year, although domestic flights experienced a 3.9 percent decrease in the number of passengers carried.

Four of the top five airlines, in terms of carrying passengers to and from McCarran, experienced a year-over-year decrease in passengers.

Southwest decreased 2.2 percent; United dropped 14.3 percent; Delta fell 10.8 percent; and American was down 3.8 percent. Only Spirit increased its number of passengers, up 49.9 percent over September 2011.
