LAS VEGAS - Crafting is big business these days. Many local crafters look to online discount stores for supplies. You may, however, want to check out who you order from before handing over your credit card information. You may not get what you paid for.
Laurie Alcantara ordered from JKM Ribbon and Trim's online store in May. She was told she'd have her items in 5 to 6 weeks, but they never came.
"I've never seen any merchandise, and I haven't heard anything from them since then," she said.
Laurie sews costumes for kids as a side job. With Halloween around the corner, this is her busy time. Disappointed with not getting her items, she asked for a refund. She says the company refused and only offered store credit. Plus, she says they wouldn't honor her coupon.
"They were no longer able to honor the 30% discount they had promised and that they were only able to offer a 10% discount on the merchandise," she said.
More than 220 people in 38 states have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau against JKM Ribbon and Trims.
The company's president Carmela Fusco responded to the complaints. She told the BBB her company ships 85 to 90 percent of its orders on time. Fusco also said JKM doesn't stock its own products and is dependent on suppliers. Their sales policy clearly states the company offers no cancellations or refunds.
Laurie admits she did not read the company's sales policy, which clearly states that all sales are final.
Consumers are urged to always read sales policies before making purchases and research companies they purchase from.
Laurie says after her experience with JKM Ribbon, she checked out the company's Facebook page and saw numerous complaints.
