LAS VEGAS - Nevada's unemployment rate reached 12.1 percent in August. The August rate represents a drop from 13.8 percent in 2011 and was up slightly from 12 percent in July.
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reports Nevada businesses shed 1,000 jobs in August and 3,600 jobs during the summer months from June to July.
The unemployment rate in the Las Vegas valley mirrored the statewide numbers. The rate in Las Vegas hit 12.3 percent in August. That compares with 12.5 percent in July and 13.8 percent in August 2011.
