LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Las Vegas personal care assistant is being ordered to pay thousands in restitution after prosecutors said he claimed to be serving a Medicaid recipient while he was actually on vacation.
James Hanna is being ordered to repay almost $7,000 on a misdemeanor charge of submitting a false Medicaid claim. The Nevada Attorney General's office said Hanna didn't contest the matter.
Investigators said they found Hanna went on out-of-state vacations, but reported that he was still providing care for a patient in Nevada. They also said he claimed to be serving at times when he was at another job.
The Medicaid personal care assistant program allows people to live independently in their own homes while assisting them with basic household tasks.
