AC Casino to Pay Winners in Unshuffled Card Case

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- The Golden Nugget casino in Atlantic City said it will let gamblers cash in nearly $1 million worth of chips they won in a card game where the decks were unshuffled.

The casino also will let gamblers keep more than a half-million dollars it already paid them from the same disputed games.

Golden Nugget owner Tilman Fertitta said he strongly disagrees with a judge who ordered the payments earlier Friday, but said the casino will comply with his order.

Immediately after the ruling, the Golden Nugget said it would appeal.

The dispute stems from games of mini-baccarat held at the casino on April 30. Unbeknownst to either the players or the casino, the cards put into use for the games were not shuffled as their manufacturer promised they would be.
