LAS VEGAS – CJ the chimpanzee has arrived safely at her new home at a central Oregon sanctuary.

The chimp, who departed Las Vegas earlier in the week, arrived Friday.

She was greeted by chimpanzees Topo, Herbie, Jackson, Patti, Maggie, Thiele and Emma. According to the sanctuary, they each have a unique story like CJ.

The North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance was meeting at Chimps Inc., where CJ now resides, for its annual meeting.

"NAPSA is pleased that CJ has found a home at our member sanctuary, Chimps Inc., where she will be cared for in a secure and professional environment," a statement from the alliance said. "CJ and Buddy's case serves as a further reminder that chimpanzees should not be bred and sold as pets.

CJ was moved to the sanctuary after Buddy, a chimp she was kept with in Las Vegas, was shot and killed by Metro Police after the pair escaped from their backyard cage last month.

8 News NOW will update this story with the latest details as more becomes known.
