CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Initial claims for Nevada unemployment benefits rose slightly in July, ending a 31-month tend of declines.
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reports Thursday that 18,690 new claims for jobless benefits were filed last month. That's 40 more than the same month last year.
Still, officials said the pace of initial jobless claims is far below the peak of 36,414 reached in December 2008 at the height of the recession.
The state agency is set to release July's unemployment numbers on Friday.
