LAS VEGAS -- CJ the chimp is being delayed on her trip to her new home in Oregon due to some medical testing requirements.

CJ left Las Vegas Tuesday headed for the Chimps, Inc. sanctuary in central Oregon but is now in a holding pattern until her test results for salmonella and parasites are known. She has already passed the TB test.

Lee Watkinson, CJ's handler, who is driving with CJ said she seems to be enjoying the road trip.

Marla O'Donnell, Chimp, Inc. director, said the sanctuary is excited to get CJ. The chimp will be kept in quarantine. A behavioral consultant will evaluate CJ and make sure has a safe introduction to the other seven chimps at the sanctuary.

The non-profit sanctuary was founded in 1995 to provide lifetime care of captive chimpanzees.
