LAS VEGAS -- A former Las Vegas Wranglers hockey player has been charged with nine felony counts in connection with the sexual assault of a teenage girl.
According to the arrest report, Michael Brian McBain, 35, turned himself in after the girl's mother and the girl told police the 16-year-old girl had been sexually abused by McBain between 2008 and 2012.
After McBain retired as a player from the Wranglers, he became an assistant coach for the team.
When the girl finally told her mother, and the mother confronted McBain, he left to visit his brother in Oregon, where he tried to kill himself by overdosing on pills. While he was in the hospital, the girl's mother visited him and he confessed to her that he had sexually abused the girl, according to the police report. He also wrote the girl an apology letter.
McBain turned himself in July 5 at the Clark County Detention Center. He is facing two counts of lewdness with a child under age of 14, a count of sexual assault with a minor under 14 years of age, four counts of sexual assault with a minor under 16 years of age and two counts of open or gross lewdness.
