LAS VEGAS -- The start of the school year also means the start of less expensive child care for working parents. City Safekey programs are open for registration.
Safekey is a program offered at many Clark County schools to keep children supervised before and after school.
"We always make sure the kids are safe, they are accounted for, and that they're having fun and having a good time," said Kurt Williams, the recreation manager for the city of Henderson.
He expects nearly 1,000 kids to register in Henderson which is an increase from last year. The Safekey program costs $55 a week. "Parents are actually starting to go back to work and they need our services," he said.
Ruth Whittacre is a stay at home mom but knows working parents often have no choice but to have others look after their kids.
"I think it's crucial to have somebody reliable to look after your kids," Whittacre said.
