DA: Nurses Charged in Hep C Outbreak Reject Plea Deal

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The District Attorney's office confirmed Thursday that the two nurse anesthetists charged in the 2007 hepatitis C outbreak case have rejected plea deals offered by prosecutors.

On Wednesday, an attorney for one of the nurses confirmed they are also facing a grand jury murder investigation following the death of a patient who died from complications after allegedly contracting hepatitis C at the clinic.

The nurses standing trial on felony neglect and fraud charges are Ronald Lakeman and Keith Mathahs. The owner of the clinic, Dr. Dipak Desai, is at the center of the scandal and is also facing felony charges.
