LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A 48-year-old Las Vegas man accused of a vacuum cleaner sales scam targeting seniors has pleaded guilty to a charge against him.
Gary Harvey pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of obtaining money under false pretenses from a person over 60 years of age. As part of his plea agreement, he'll have to pay $15,044 in restitution to victims.
Authorities said Harvey posed as a licensed Kirby vacuum salesman and went door-to-door in senior adult communities in Las Vegas.
Officials said Harvey made up a variety of excuses when customers asked him for a refund, but never gave their money back.
Harvey faces up to six years in prison at sentencing Dec. 11.
A spokesman for the Kirby Company said the corporation applauds the investigators on the case.
