Cheese may seem unhealthy because of its dense calories, but new research shows it can reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes when eaten in small amounts as part of a meal.

The study is in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Researchers did not find an exact reason why cheese might offer a little protection from diabetes, but they surmise it might be the fermentation process that's involved in cheese-making.
