(June 1) -- The local mother charged with contributing to the death of her diabetic daughter was granted bail Tuesday.
Although Cheryl Botzet was granted bail, she says she can't afford it. She is charged with murder in connection with the death of her 11-year-old daughter, Ariel.
The charges accuse her of failing to monitor and treat her daughter's diabetes. The judge set Botzet's bail at $150,000. Her attorney thinks it was set high to benefit the judge's agenda.
"I think he is more concerned about his election to the supreme court than he is about taking care of people's rights who are accused of a crime," said Herb Sachs, defense attorney.
Ariel Botzet died after not getting the insulin she needed to keep her diabetes under control. Now her mother is charged with murder and Child Protective Services is under investigation. More>>
There's a concern that the Metro investigation, which led to the murder charge was based on a simplistic view of diabetes, a view that insulin is a "wonder" drug which "always" keeps the disease in check.
