HENDERSON -- Henderson Police officers shot and killed a man Monday morning who was wanted in connection with the stabbing death of a 36-year-old man.

According to police, Andy Puente Soto, 42, was under surveillance by Henderson Criminal Apprehension Team members when they tried to arrest him on a warrant charging him with the death of Scott Gerald Harrison.

Harrison's body was discovered July 4 in the desert between Las Vegas and Indian Springs.

Police officers shot Soto about 9 a.m. near Boulder Highway and Warm Springs Road. Before the shooting, the police team members were following Soto on Boulder Highway. When Henderson officers attempted to pull him over, Soto refused to stop.

After a short time, Soto stopped his car because it was disabled. He then got out of his vehicle and tried to carjack an elderly woman, who locked her doors to prevent the attack. She was unharmed.

According to police, officers ordered Soto to surrender and remove his hands from his waistband, because he appeared to be handling a gun. Instead he made "aggressive, furtive movements," the police said. When Soto refused to comply, officers shot and killed him, the police said.

After he was shot, officers did not find a gun on him, according to police.

The two officers who fired at Soto were placed on routine administrative leave during an investigation into the shooting. The officers have been identified as detective David Rowlett, who has worked for the Henderson Police Department since 1996, and officer Daniel Medrano, who has worked for the police department since 2008.

Henderson police are looking for the driver of the car that Soto tried to carjack. The car is described as a gray Mercury Grand Marquis with a handicapped placard hanging from the rearview mirror.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the police department at 702-267-4750.
