LAS VEGAS -- Family members said the man accused of stabbing his estranged wife and son may have been planning it.
Shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday, North Las Vegas Police officers responded to a home in the 2600 block of East Tonopah Street after a report of multiple stabbing victims. When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old woman, a 15-year-old boy and 37-year-old Mario Alejandro Lopez with stab wounds.
Zeita Robles said Lopez, who is married to her cousin, attacked his son and wife on the woman's birthday as she returned home from her second job early Saturday morning.
According to police, Lopez forced his way into his wife's home and is alleged to have stabbed her several times. When their son tried to come to her aid, he was also stabbed. Lopez then turned the knife on himself before police arrived, the police said.
North Las Vegas police later arrested Lopez on two counts of attempted murder, a count of burglary with a deadly weapon and a count of assault with a deadly weapon.
The family said it was a gruesome scene inside the home, with blood covering the walls, the floor and the windows.
All three people were transported to University Medical Center.
The woman is in critical condition. The boy and Lopez were taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Lopez has since been released from the hospital and booked into the Las Vegas Detention Center.
