LAS VEGAS -- Boyd Gaming Corp.'s Echelon project on the Las Vegas Strip was granted a six-year extension by the Clark County Zoning Commission on Wednesday.

County spokesman Dan Kulin confirmed that as a condition of the extension, Boyd Gaming will be required to make the unfinished north Strip property less of an eyesore.

The company will have to spend $4 million to screen in the building's shell and add landscaping at the front of the property facing the Strip.

Construction of the Echelon began in 2007 and was scheduled to be finished by the end of 2012. At the time the project was announced, the $4.8 billion project was designed to have 5,000 rooms.
