Feds Settle Suit With Nevada Over Reservist's Job

Posted: Updated:

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- The Justice Department has officially settled a lawsuit against Nevada over allegations that the state controller's office violated the rights of a returning Army reservist when he didn't get his job back.

The Nevada Board of Examiners approved the settlement last week, agreeing to pay Arthur Ingram III $262,000 in back pay and $211,000 to cover pension benefits for a nine-year period. The agreement was filed in federal court on May 7.

Ingram was hired by former state Controller Kathy Augustine as chief deputy state controller. He left in June 2003 to serve as an Army reservist.

When he returned to Carson City five years later, he asked new state Controller Kim Wallin for his old job back. She offered him a different job and the case went to court.
