Students Improve Slightly in Math, Reading

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Test scores of students in the Clark County School District have improved in reading and mathematics, the district announced Tuesday.

Students in grades three to eight are given the Criterion Reference Test, mandated by the state of Nevada. Students in every grade tested showed improvement over last year's scores, and excelled on exams that were tougher than previous years, according to the district.

A more rigorous curriculum was implemented by staff, which the district is crediting for improving test scores.

"The reforms we've put in place at the elementary and middle school levels are paying off, but we know our students are capable of more," district Superintendent Dwight Jones said. "We remain committed to achieving our goal of having every student ‘Ready by Exit' and that starts not in high school, but at our earliest grade levels."
