Jamie Moyer Wins First Start with 51s

TACOMA, Was. – Veteran pitcher Jamie Moyer allowed three runs and struck out six batters in his debut with the Las Vegas 51s Thursday night, as the 51s defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 11-4.

Moyer, who signed with the 51s' affiliate Toronto Blue Jays earlier this week, struggled to start the game, giving up two runs in the first inning and a third run in the second inning. The 49-year-old pitcher settled down, however, and held Tacoma scoreless during the next three innings.

The 51s' bats, meanwhile, came alive in the fifth inning. Las Vegas scored six runs, including RBI hits by Travis Snider, Moises Sierra and Eric Thames.

The 51s added two runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning. The Rainiers scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but failed to generate a rally.

Moyer earned the win. Tacoma reliever Steven Hensley suffered the loss.
