CPS Called Several Times for Children Killed in Fire

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Child Protective Services made six visits to the family involved in a fatal mobile home fire, with two visits coming in the last year.

According to the Clark County Coroner, 2-year-old Sylar Lafia, 1-year-old Aryana Lafia and 2-year-old David Gouailhardou died after the trailer caught on fire in northeast Las Vegas. The children's parents escaped the fire with minor injuries.

According to records, a call to CPS was made just two months ago for the mother of the two siblings who died in that fire. The allegations were found to be unsubstantiated. A year ago, CPS was called on the father of the 2-year-old boy who died, and the agency found there was not enough to pursue an investigation.

A child welfare report shows CPS was called on David Gouailhardou's father a year ago. The report shows the facts did not warrant an investigation.

"Shane was a good dad. He's been single with his son for a long time, that's why he's probably dying inside," said family friend Christy McNely.

McNely says when CPS made a visit last year, the boy's dad had roommates at time, and they were the reason the agency was called.

"I know for sure it wasn't for Shane, because Shane made a comment to me about his roommate talking to a CPS worker," she said.

A second report shows CPS made five separate visits to the family of the siblings killed, with one just two months ago. The kids were allowed to stay in the home, the family was provided with a community resource list for reference and the case was closed.

David's mom was also admitted to the hospital Tuesday night after suffering from an anxiety attack.
