LAS VEGAS - University of Connecticut forward Roscoe Smith has decided to transfer to UNLV.
Smith announced last month he was leaving the Huskies after the NCAA banned the school from postseason play next year because of some academic issues.
He took an official visit to UNLV last week and committed Friday to UNLV coach Dave Rice and his staff.
The Runnin' Rebels plan on asking the NCAA for a waiver to allow Smith to play next year, but many think the junior-to-be will end up red-shirting.
Smith's a 6'8" forward out of the Baltimore area. He prepped at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and was ranked the number 37th overall recruit by rivals.com in the 2010 class.
He was a starter on the Huskies' 2010 title-winning team and averaged more than five points and four rebounds a game in his two years at Connecticut.
He plays a similar position to forward Mike Moser and could be a logical replacement if Moser leaves early for the NBA after this year.
