LAS VEGAS -- New details have been released about the man who police say confessed to a murder at the Clark County Detention Center.

Ricardo Perez was arrested Tuesday afternoon after going to the jail and telling the on-duty officer that he had killed a woman and dumped her body in the desert. He told police he was turning himself in because it was the right thing to do.

Police later recovered the body and identified her as 18-year-old Breana Lynn Carasik-McGee. She was found in the foothills south of Henderson.

According to the police report, Perez said he was drinking heavily at a party and playing with a gun. As he was leaving the party, he says the gun went off, striking Carasik-McGee in the back of the head. He allegedly loaded her into his SUV and dumped her body in the desert.

According to the report, Perez confessed to shooting Carasik-McGee a second time when he dropped her body in the desert.

Perez has been booked for murder with a deadly weapon and battery with a deadly weapon.
