Obama Visits Reno Family to Tout Mortgage Relief

Posted: Updated:

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- President Barack Obama has left Reno after visiting with a family to tout his efforts to help homeowners pay their mortgages.

Air Force One took off shortly before 1 p.m. Friday, about two hours after arriving to visit Paul and Val Keller at their home and giving a 15-minute address from their driveway to a group of neighbors and supporters.

Obama noted the Kellers now pay $240 less per month in mortgage payments after taking advantage of his refinancing program that took effect in January.

He urged Congress to pass legislation so homeowners without government-backed loans also can take advantage of the savings when refinancing.

Obama headed back to Washington after paying his first visit to Reno in about a year. He carried the swing state of Nevada in 2008.
