Police Hand Out Tickets Targeting Bad Drivers

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, along with other Nevada law enforcement agencies, are trying to stop dangerous drivers from killing more pedestrians on the streets. Officers are out targeting major intersections with a history of crashes.

Officers from Metro, along with the Nevada Highway Patrol and Boulder City Police have been out in force handing, out tickets for all sorts of violations -- from speeding to crosswalk violations and talking on cell phones.

This is all to get the message across to drivers that the death toll on Southern Nevada roads is out of control. So far this year in just Metro's jurisdiction, 45 people have been killed in traffic related crashes.

Officers will be out in record numbers this week hitting busy intersections for drivers and pedestrians.

"I've noticed a lot of people don't drive that crazy now that the police are out here," said pedestrian Buffy Tovar.

This enforcement event at Desert Inn Road and Maryland Parkway will wrap up at 6 p.m., but there will be more events later in the year.
