Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- A woman was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting around 2 a.m. Saturday.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, there was a call from a citizen who reported that a female, he knew, stole his car. The person also reported that his firearm was in the vehicle.

Metro officers located the vehicle and woman in the area of Jones Boulevard and Smoke Ranch Road.

Police say the woman refused to comply with multiple commands from officers to exit the vehicle. Subsequently, crisis intervention team (CIT) officers were called.

The Crisis Negotiations team and the SWAT team were also called.

According to police, a CIT officer was talking to the driver using a public address system when the female stepped out of the vehicle and pointed a firearm at officers. Five officers discharged their firearms and struck the suspect multiple times.

Medical personnel were immediately called and the suspect was pronounced dead on scene.

The suspect's identity is unknown at this time.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave and their names will be released after 48 hours.
