Lameka Would Love to Make a Home in Your Heart

Posted: Updated:

(Mar. 18) -- One thing you find out quickly when you're parenting is there are no perfect children -- and no perfect parents.  The good thing is that gives us all room to improve. And that's the case with Wednesday's Child, Lameka.

When we sat down for the first time, Dave was worried that Lameka would be a little leery of meeting someone new, but she was delightfully charming and got comfortable right away.

"I like to pick up kitties and pet them," she told Dave.

While they were coloring, Dave found out that Lameka likes pets, wants to be a ballerina someday, and that she likes school. Her caseworker says considering her rocky start in life, Lameka has a great outlook.

"Shortly after she was born, she was separated from her mother, so she's been in and out of homes," her caseworker told us.

Because her natural mother was neglectful during pregnancy, Lameka has some learning and behavioral delays and needs close direction at home. On the plus side, though, Lameka is always on the go, loving and happy.

"She always has a smile on her face, always glad to see me when I come," her social worker told us.

Lameka would thrive in a structured setting with patient parents, who set a strong routine.

"She needs a home that is gonna really understand that it's not going to be easy. It's going to be a long road ahead, but someone who is committed to taking on that responsibility. I think that in the right home, she could do really well. I think she has a good attitude about things," says her caseworker.

Lameka is free and clear for adoption immediately. She's a sweet kid who loves to cuddle and be cuddled. To get started in the process of adoption, call the Adoption Exchange here in Las Vegas at 436-6335 . They'll be happy to answer your questions.
