NASCAR Comes to Las Vegas

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- NASCAR weekend in Las Vegas is finally here. The first race starts tomorrow, but thousands of race fans headed down to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway today, loading up on souvenirs and hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite driver.

At the Neon Garage, there is food, entertainment, and a window to look into the actual garage where the race cars are.

Thousands of people crowded the ticket booths to snatch up the very few seats left. Officials say ticket sales were slightly up from last year.

Meanwhile, the constant sound of the cash registers rung throughout the gift shop as the line of customers zig-zagged to the back door. They bought everything from hats, decals, shirts and jackets.

But one of the fan favorites are the windows to the garage, where fans like Tina Metcalf can look in and actually see her favorite driver.

"This is pretty awesome. When we came in, we did the garage experience at Daytona last year and it was very similar. But you didn't have this upper area where you can view down on the cars and this is pretty awesome," she said.

The speedway seats about 140,000 people. Race officials say they are almost to capacity but still have plenty of seats left.

Traffic can be an issue, so it is recommended you come several hours early. The Neon Garage will be open early so you'll have plenty to do.
