LAS VEGAS -- A non-profit organization designed to help others deal with life-threatening diseases is supporting the 1st Strength for Jaxon 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk on Saturday, March 10.
The organization is inviting runners and walkers to bring an item for raffle or a donation to help Jaxon Piro, 10, of Las Vegas who is fighting inoperable brainstem tumors.
Piro was diagnosed in March 2011 after experiencing headaches, nausea and imbalance. His first brain tumor was removed two days later. Six months later, after treatment, Jaxon was diagnosed again with three more brain tumors. Two of them remain inoperable.
Piro's parents found a clinical trial treatment in Houston, Texas that has shown a success rate in reducing brainstem tumors. Insurance, however, doesn't cover the treatment.
