(Mar. 10) -- On Wednesday's Child we talk about how the only thing a special needs child especially needs is love. That is all the more true with David, an 11-year-old with a lot to offer to the right family.

David and I took advantage of the great weather to get to know each other on the YMCA's new playground. He's a happy kid with a great attitude, and plenty of smarts. You might have noticed David wears thick glasses, he's actually legally blind, but after a while you'd never know it, because he does so well despite all that.

In fact, his foster mom says he's really taking off in his schoolwork. "He'd doing very well in school. His reading, all his math is improving. Overall he's beginning to be quite a student. He's doing very well in school."

David's had some foster placement disruptions in the past, and although he's lived with Rosemary for more than 4 years and he knows he can't stay in her foster home forever. What kind of family would he like? "A nice one. So I can have somebody to play with, who will be nice to me."

David is very affectionate, tries to please and says he wants to be a teacher someday.

Rosemary brought him this far, now it's time for the right adoptive parents. "He would like to have a mom and a dad. He would like to have a dad to take him to some of the different games like some of the other kids."

Maybe you could be the perfect family for David.  So, if you'd like to start the process of adopting David, call the adoption exchange here in Las Vegas at 436-6335.
