Thursday night, Valley High School hosted the school district's first of four safety forums. The idea behind the forums is to get parents involved and discuss the issues that ultimately affect kids' safety.
"To our parents, we want them to know that the safety of the kids, the safety of our staff is most important to us. That is our mission, and this is something we take pride in daily," said one CCSD police officer.
"The more relationships that police have with the parents and students, I think it increases the safety," said parent Monica Cooke.
Police say more students are bringing weapons to school compared with last year. So far this year, school police have confiscated eight guns and 22 pellet guns.
Fewer than ten parents showed up for Thursday night's forum. School police hope more parents get involved in later forums.
