LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Court-ordered talks have yielded settlements in about 40 lawsuits involving drug companies blamed for supplying an anesthetic to Las Vegas medical clinics where health officials say patients contracted incurable hepatitis C.
A court spokeswoman said Tuesday that settlements involving Teva Parenteral Medicines and other companies were approved Friday by Clark County District Court Judge Jennifer Togliatti.
Terms weren't disclosed. But Teva spokeswoman Denise Bradley put the amount the Israel-based company has set aside at about $285 million.
Teva had appealed jury verdicts calling for it to pay almost $800 million in damages in separate but similar Las Vegas product liability cases stemming from the 2007 hepatitis C outbreak.
The Nevada Supreme Court in January ordered plaintiffs and defendants into what the court called a global settlement conference.
