Las Vegas Couple Recognized for Longest Marriage

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Valentines Day is on Tuesday, and a Las Vegas husband and wife are giving this special day a true meaning to what it's known for. They are being recognized as the longest married couple in the country.

It's a love story that has spanned nearly eight decades. Wilbur and Theresa Faiss of Las Vegas are celebrating their 79th wedding anniversary this April, and they said their secret is simple: It's about give and take and compromise.

"Concentrate on the things the bring you together ignore the things that take you apart," said Wilbur Faiss.

Wilbur says to keep your marriage strong, be the first one to apologize and say "I love you," everyday.

Wilbur, who is 100-years-old, and his wife Theresa, who is 96, won a contest sponsored by the group Worldwide Marriage Encounter, where nominations were sent in from around the country.

The two have lived in Clark County for 68 years. Wilber Faiss is a former Nevada State Senator. Today's ceremony took place at a middle school that has been named after the couple and those who attended say they were inspired by this love story.

"It's beautiful. It's our goal to be married for life. We believe we will be married for as long as we live," said Dominic Fossile.

The Faiss' were married on April 14th, 1933. They have three children, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. Many of them were there at today's ceremony.

Their oldest son was the one who entered them into the contest.
