LAS VEGAS -- Two serious motorcycle accidents have happened at the same intersection less than a week apart. One of them involves a UNLV ROTC student who is now fighting in ICU.
There have been four accidents in the last 90 days at Jones Boulevard and Robindale Road, including Wednesday night where another motorcyclist died.
UNLV's ROTC family is praying for a full recovery for Cadet Emanuel Utan. He was rushed to UMC with critical injuries after a Jeep hit his motorcycle.
Fellow cadets set up an account for Utan's medical bills, housing for out-of-town family and they're working on an emergency scholarship fund. It's the time of support Utan's friend says makes their ROTC bond unbreakable.
"This is our life, whether we go to lunch together, breakfast together, we're up at 4:30 in the morning to go to PT together. This is what we have to rely on. Between us and the family, it's the two closest things we have for strength and support and we need to make sure it stays that way," said UNLV Cadet Justin Taylor.
Cadet Taylor says Utan is also an engineering student who is always positive, even when other cadets complain about physical training. He says they vow to do everything they can to make sure Utan fulfills his dream of becoming a commissioned Army officer.
The cadets have opened a bank account to help Cadet Utan. It is at US Bank, account number 253752573563, called the Emanuel Utan Recovery Fund.
