LAS VEGAS -- More troubling details regarding former Henderson City Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion have surfaced. It appears this isn't the first time she has overdosed.
Vermillion's 19-year-old son, Alex, told 8 News NOW that he witnessed his mother try to kill herself with painkillers and vodka at the end of 2010. He adds that Vermillion's then boyfriend, Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak, was present and helped save her life.
Sisolak told 8 News NOW, that he helped an unconscious Vermillion, but believes it was an accidental overdose, not a suicide attempt.
The I-Team captured video Monday showing Vermillion, formerly known as Kathy Boutin, returning home wearing hospital clothing. Vermillion is the focus of an investigation into the mishandling of funds at the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, a group she founded.
Vermillion faced a bitter breakup with Commissioner Steve Sisolak that lead to a defamation lawsuit against him and claims of extortion against her.
8 News NOW did obtain a recorded phone call Vermillion made to Henderson Police the first night she was hospitalized.
Hear the call made by Vermillion from the hospital.
In the call, she tells Henderson Police to keep her 19-year-old son out of her house and admits that she's had Child Protective Services see her about her teenage daughter.
