LAS VEGAS - The Service Employees International Union Local 1107 has filed a lawsuit against Sunrise Hospital over the hospital's alleged refusal to rehire a nurse who was wrongfully terminated.

Jessica Rice was fired in 2010 during an investigation into a baby's death. Sunrise identified Rice and her former co-worker Sharon Reyes as possible suspects in an investigation into a series of broken catheters in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

After more than a year and a half, neither nurse faced any formal charges. In December 2011, an arbitrator ordered Sunrise Hospital to reinstate Rice, saying the hospital lacked cause to terminate her. The arbitrator's decision requires Sunrise to reinstate Rice and to pay back wages.

The lawsuit claims the hospital refused to rehire Rice. The union is seeking a court order confirming the awards granted by the arbitrator and attorneys' fees.
