LAS VEGAS -- Former Henderson City Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion arrived home Tuesday in hospital scrubs - covering her face and refusing to talk to the 8 News NOW I-Team. Sources say she may have overdosed on pills and alcohol in an attempt to kill herself at her home on Friday.
Two calls were placed to a 911 dispatcher. One came from her home Feb. 3. Henderson Fire Department responded to the home at 6:52 a.m. for a medical episode and rushed her St. Rose Siena Hospital.
The other call was made by Vermillion from the hospital.
"It's former City Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion," she said on the 911 call.
"I'm sorry, who am I speaking with?" the dispatcher replied.
"Former City Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion," Vermillion answered.
During the bizarre call, Vermillion references her son's DUI criminal charges and his defense attorney.
"He told my son if he gets custody of my 15-year-old daughter that he can in fact move back to Las Vegas, and charges will be dropped against him," she said.
"Why does your son need to get custody of your daughter?" the dispatcher asked.
"I don't know, but here's why I'm calling you, and I want an investigator to look into this. I'm under the belief that - I'm in the hospital right now - I'm under the belief that my son has gone to my home," she said.
Vermillion asked police to check up on her home and make sure her son was not there. The dispatcher asked for more information.
"What's your room number?" the dispatcher asked.
"My what?" Vermillion asked.
"Your room number, there at the hospital," the dispatcher answered.
"I'm not sure. They have me in protective custody. This is actually the first phone call they've allowed me to make, and I had to get the supervisor's permission to do it," Vermillion said.
"Do you know why it's protective custody? Is someone trying to harm you, or is it just because of your position - your former position?" asked the dispatcher.
"I'm not at liberty to say that," Vermillion said.
Vermillion, who was formally known as Kathleen Boutin, created the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.
Vermillion has been in the news recently because she is suing her former boyfriend, Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak. She says he released her private medical information. In turn, Sisolak filed a criminal complaint against Vermillion. He accused her of attempting to extort money from him. Vermillion is the focus of an investigation into the spending of funds at the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.
Sisolak said in a statement, "My thoughts and prayers are with Kathleen and her family at this time, especially her two children, who have shown a tremendous amount of love and maturity."
Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen expressed his concern for Vermillion. "Obviously, this is a very trying time. Our hearts go out to her and (we) hope the very best for her during this difficult time," he said.
Vermillion's daughter, who incidentally was dragged into this drama last month in an effort to publicly discredit Sisolak, found her mother and made the 911 call Friday morning.
That call is expected to be released Wednesday.
