Sportsbooks Rake In Super Bowl Bets

LAS VEGAS -- Every year, sportsbooks around Las Vegas are a popular place to take in the Super Bowl. Hundreds of fans are in Las Vegas to see the New York Giants take on the New England Patriots.

The rematch of the 2008 Super Bowl has fans pouring into the LVH sportsbook, ready to place their bets.

"I come here for crowd, the food, the good time, and the best casino for the TV's," said Giants fan Kevin Suhl.

Suhl traveled from Amarillo, Texas for the Super Bowl. He also has $10,000 riding on the game.

The LVH sportsbook had to break out the crowd control ropes to help with the huge lines. As many as 100 people were in line at a time, ready to put their money down.

Sportsbook officials say it's become more than just a game for them. It generates a huge revenue and they try to keep fans entertained with giveaways and other promotions.

Sportsbook officials hope to see numbers like they did last year, when nearly $90 million statewide was wagered.

"I think that if we reach last year's number, I think that would be a surprise to me. It's kind of been on the slow side. We didn't take a lot of large wagers, but I think we can reach $87, $88 million," said LVH Vice President of Race and Sports Betting Jay Kornegay.

Sportsbook officials say even though we won't see more NFL action until the fall, they will be gearing for March Madness in a few weeks.
