LAS VEGAS -- The opening of the Splash Canyon Waterpark in southwest Las Vegas has been delayed for one year. The park was scheduled to open on Memorial Day weekend.

The opening of the $20 million family waterpark located near I-215 and Sunset Road was delayed by the investor group. The new opening date will be in the spring of 2013. The investor group says it wanted to add more amenities to the waterpark and ensure that all first-year season pass holders who get a full year of use. People who purchased 2012 season passes will receive a full refund or a conversion to a 2013 season pass for half price.

"The community's response to Splash Canyon Waterpark has been tremendous since we announced in November, and nobody wanted to see it open in May more than our own families," said Roger Bulloch, managing partner of SPB Partners, the developer of the project. "Moving our opening date to next year wasn't an easy decision, but it was the right long-term one.
