LAS VEGAS --Donald Trump threw his support to GOP candidate Mitt Romney during a much-anticipated announcement at Trump's hotel in Las Vegas.

"There are some things you can't imagine in your life and this is one of them," said Romney.

In an earlier interview with 8 News NOW, Romney said he knew the Trump endorsement was coming and he was pleased to get it.

Trump told the crowd, "Our country is in serious trouble and we really have an opportunity to do something great for the country." Trump added that Romney is tough and smart and won't allow "bad things" to happen to the country.

Romney said Nevada is leading the nation in a negative way when it comes to high unemployment and record numbers of foreclosures. He says he is looking for Nevadans to support him as he campaigns for the GOP nomination. "This is a very tough time for the people of Nevada and I want to do everything in my power to get everything going again."

It had been a confusing 24 hours regarding who Trump would be supporting. On Wednesday, sources with the Newt Gingrich campaign said that Trump would be endorsing Gingrich. By Thursday morning, Republican officials and some major news outlets were reporting that Trump would actually support Romney in the upcoming presidential race.

Trump has said negative things about Romney in the past. Trump also told Las Vegas reporters that he would not run for president as an independent if Romney becomes the GOP nominee.
