More Women Attend SHOT Show

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Tens of thousands of gun enthusiasts from around the world are in Las Vegas for the annual SHOT Show. It is a gun industry trade show, and this year, there were more women.

Over the holiday's, gun sales for women soared. At the gun expo, women are packing heat for protection, and now for recreation.

What started for many women as a way to protect themselves has turned into a hobby -- a collection and for many women, a way of life. Some women grew up around it, while others have recently discovered it.

They say it's time to turn this so-called man's sport into a woman's world, and it's a trend women and men actually welcome.

"I grew up with a bunch of guys, hunting, my brother, my father. It's just amazing. It is so in the blood," said Tara Salerno.

"It's a new world. They don't need to depend on us and I have no problem depending on them. They can shoot and some of them shoot better than me," said Luis Valdes.

About 1,600 vendors are at the event, which brings about 60,000 people to Las Vegas. They are showing off everything from the guns, to the accessories, to the clothes -- basically all things gun related.

The show ends Friday and is not open to the public.
