LAS VEGAS -- Two people are dead after an accident early Thursday morning at northbound I-215 and Cheyenne Ave.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says a 65-year-old driver and her 71-year-old passenger died in the high-speed crash. Witnesses say the white Toyota Camry was traveling more than 70 mph just before the accident at 1:45 a.m. Troopers say the car sped through a red light on the Cheyenne Avenue off-ramp and slammed into a concrete wall.
Trooper Jeremie Elliott says the four-door sedan was demolished when it plowed through a chain-link fence and hit a second concrete wall. The names of the people killed have not been released.
Investigators don't know yet why the car was going so fast. The on-ramp was closed for almost six hours during the crash investigation.
